Roles

Ritual uses a role-based system so responsibilities are clear at every stage of an exploration. Roles are scoped to an exploration, not to the workspace — the same person can be admin in one exploration and collaborator in another.

Admin

Anyone who creates an exploration becomes its admin. Admins drive the exploration end to end and can promote others to admin.

Responsibilities:

• Create the exploration and define the problem statement.
• Set the sourcing and answering periods.
• Invite collaborators and assign questions to assignees and reviewers.
• Organize questions into matters.
• Move the exploration through its stages.

Permissions: Full control over exploration settings, team membership, and workflow state.

Collaborator

Collaborators contribute during the sourcing period and can be assigned to develop or review answers. Most people on an exploration are collaborators.

Responsibilities:

• Suggest discovery questions during sourcing.
• Take on assignee or reviewer duties when assigned by the admin.
• View exploration progress and the recommendations that come out of it.

Permissions: Suggest questions, view exploration content, and comment on recommendations. Edit and review permissions are granted per question via assignment.

Assignee

Assignees are collaborators selected by the admin to answer a specific question. Each question has one assignee.

Responsibilities:

• Develop a complete answer to the assigned question within the answering period.
• Address reviewer feedback and revise as needed.

Permissions: Edit access to the assigned question’s answer.

Reviewer

Reviewers approve or request changes to an answer before it counts as complete. Each question has one or more reviewers, and every reviewer must approve.

Responsibilities:

• Assess answer completeness and accuracy.
• Approve or request revisions with specific feedback.

Permissions: Approve or reject the answer on assigned questions and leave feedback.
